Swimming

The coast of Clare has several safe, sandy beaches. The main resorts are Lahinch, Kilkee, White Strand at Doonbeg, and Fanore (near Ballyvaughan). All are Blue Flag beaches, achieving EU high standards of safety and cleanliness. The beach at Doughmore Strand in Doonbeg, while beautiful, is not a safe swimming beach although it is popular with some local surfers who may know the strong currents and pitfalls. Indoor swimming is available nearby.
